High School is a place to learn and grow. Explore your options and express yourself. Here are some things I have learned halfway through High School.
Not everything goes your way.

High School is a time to learn and test the waters. You don't have to know what you want to do and you can switch classes easily. Things happen unexpectedly, and if something does not go to plan, just go with the flow. You shouldn't expect everything to go your way.
You don't always get A's, and that's OK.

I used to be a student in middle school where I always got A's and was an overachiever. High school is not like that. In High School you learn to appreciate a passing grade, because you don't always get an A by High School standards. If you don't get an A, get over it and move on with life, grades do not define who you are.
Take classes that you think you will like.
I've learned that not everyone is meant to be in the same class. Do not take classes just because your friend is taking those classes, it might cause you a lot of stress to study for that subject if you do not like the class. It's OK to be different and go your own way.
You'll make new friends...and lose some too.

High school is an exciting time where you get to become more mature. As you mature, you realize who you're real friends are and are not. It's OK to let go of old friends and make new friends. One thing I've learned is that I make friends with people who are in other grades and sometimes other classes.
It is really hard to find good teachers.

Let's be honest, some teachers really suck. What I've noticed is that in High School, teachers start to care less and less about you. There are some teachers who just sit at their table and expect you to do all the work; sometimes if you are lucky, there are really good teachers who care about if you learn and care about how you are. Take time to appreciate those teachers and become friends with them.
Talk to upperclassmen.

Make friends with others who are in grades above you, this will help you in the future. Upperclassmen will tell you what a class is like and what a teacher is like. They will also guide and help you throughout High School, so accept their help and try to help them too.
Some High School clubs are not worth it.
I've learned that some clubs are not worth it. Clubs and organizations are a great way to interact, but you should pick ones that interest you and that you should like. You should not be spending unnecessary time and stress on things for a club, and if there is no club that is right for you in school, look for outside opportunities, or start your own club.
