It was hours later when we felt safe to come out. It wasn’t because of the noise that kept us in there. That only lasted for about five minutes. We had no way of knowing what followed the noise. Trevor and I went out first. As we got closer to the lunchroom we saw bodies. There was everyone we knew lying on the ground. Students, teachers, and faculty all strewn about laying ontop of one another. Blood flowing out of the ears and their eyes all of them looked like they had popped out of their heads. Staring at all of the death turned my stomach and I threw up.
"What happened?" Trevor asked.
"I don't know. Go get the others," I said. I started to walk around looking at the people. All of their faces showed true terror and confusion. It was heartbreaking. Then I heard it, Meagan's scream. I turned around to find Justin holding her and Aaron holding Sasha who had fainted.
After a while Sasha was conscious again and Meagan was calm." Let’s walk around in pairs and see if anyone else survived," I said. Sasha and Aaron paired up, Meagan and Justin, and Trevor and I.
"I want to search the little children's wing," I told Trevor.
"Are you sure?" he said.
"I know it will break my heart, but we have to make sure," I answered back.
He and I walked down the hallway and came to the door. He opened it and I walked in. I looked around and let out a sob. All over the room where toys, coats, and small bodies. Trevor pulled me into his arms. I stood there and cried my eyes out on his shirt. " It's okay. Let's just check then leave," he said rubbing my hair. I pulled away and wiped my eyes. I slowly started to check the children for life. I found nothing.
"Come on let's go find the others." I walked out of the room feeling empty. We met up with the others in the library. They didn’t have any luck either. We were such a small school that almost everyone was in the lunchroom except some of the teachers.
"I think we should sleep in the Athletic Room. It has bed like things," Trevor said.
"Okay, there's one more place I want to check. We need your truck to do it though," I said to Trevor.
"You're going to the Middle School to find Max aren't you?" he asked.
"I have to. He's my brother," I answered.
" Okay, but let's be quick," he said walking out to the parking lot.
I got into the passenger's seat, and he started the car. A drive that was normally short took forever. There were cars and bodies all over the place. We did not see a single living soul.
