We are surrounded by a "do this, stop doing that, take up this habit" society. Will waking up at 5 in the morning really make you a happier person? Will making your bed really kick start your day? For things like these, it really depends on the person On the other hand, I think there are things that we can all benefit from doing. Here are 7 things that we can all take up to make life just a little brighter.
1. Taking time for prayer/thanksgiving in the morning
Mornings are often a very rushed time. There are days that I literally jump out of bed and am out of the door in 5 minutes. Having a rushed morning can throw off the vibe of your whole day. So start off and try to wake up 5 minutes earlier (you can do it). Read a bible passage, write down something you are grateful for, or just breathe in and out and practice mindfulness. A little time in the morning can set a positive feeling for the rest of the day!
2. Working out
I know this one is hard. But even just going for a walk in the morning or evening will really benefit you. Try to make a habit of taking care of your body.
3. Complimenting at least one person everyday
You will never regret being kind. "If you see something beautiful in someone, speak it." Being complimented and giving compliments are both nice feelings. Tell your friend that they have a beautiful heart, tell someone their smile is infectious, tell that stranger that their make up is on point. Sharing kindness is a wonderful thing that the world could use more of. Why not let it begin with you?
4. Telling people you love them
Make the people in your life aware of how you feel! Don't just assume they know.
5. Making time in your day for yourself
This is so important yet so often neglected. Life is busy and crazy, but you can't forget to give yourself a break. Even just 5 minutes of sitting and reflecting can do wonders. Don't get so caught up in everything else that you forget about yourself. You are valuable.
6. Forgiving
We are human. We are imperfect. Sometimes we make little mistakes. Sometimes we make huge mistakes. Whatever it is, I encourage you to let it go. Whether it be you or someone around you...forgive them.
7. Expressing your emotions
I think as a society, we tend to shy away from this. "Don't cry" is one of the absolute worst things to say to yourself or another. You should cry if you need to. Allow yourself to express your emotions. If someone hurts you, tell them. If someone is making you happy, tell them. Don't be afraid of emotion. Don't deprive yourself of being a functioning human. You have emotions, so as long as it is done safely, express them.
Have a blessed day!
