Back in January, we made our New Year's Resolutions to get in shape by Spring Break. Things seemed to have started out well, but then you realized how much you love food and how much of an effort it is to make it all the way to the gym. Not to mention how much you hate being sweaty. Don't worry, we've all been there. Now that Spring Break has come and gone, your New Year's Resolution is officially broken and summer is just around the corner. It's time to get started. When you decide to start working out again, there are things that will inevitably go through your head. This list says it all.
You have friends who love to go to the gym ...
... and then there's you.
Once you look in the mirror and can do this, you realize it's time to make a change.
Since you really despise the gym, you figure that you might try to look up a home workout video.
...You then realize why these things stayed in the 80s, because you feel absolutely ridiculous.
Maybe, going to a class at the gym will seem less intimidating than actually using the equipment.
You self-pity for a little while.
Now that you've let it all out, you're determined to make a change.
You finally brave it, and make yourself go to the actual gym to do an actual workout.
You regret it almost immediately...
... and may or may not end up like this:
You start looking for one of these ...
... until you realize that you can diet less strictly, thanks to all the calories you've just burned.
After a while, people start to notice the commitment you're making, and you love the compliments.
This makes you excited to keep going to the gym, so that you can keep making progress.
Eventually, you'll start to own your workouts and get really into them.
Give it even more time, and you will walk into the gym like:
Before you know it, you will have gone from this:
To this:
Personally, I fall somewhere in the middle of this list. Getting into a routine of working out is not easy, and the least we can do is to make light of the situation to make it seem slightly more bearable. At this point, if you see me running, it is because either something is chasing me, or I heard the words "free" and "food" in the same sentence. I definitely would not say I love working out or going to the gym, but I know that in order to get healthier and be in the shape I want, I will have to endure it. Maybe, somewhere along the line, I will eventually start to enjoy it.
