In just a few weeks we will begin spring semester at Gustavus! After spending the beautiful J-term at home, studying abroad, or taking a fun class with friends are you ready? I know I'm not! So, here are 12 tips to help you slay spring semester at Gustavus Adolphus College.

1. Put yourself out there.

Spring semester is a great time to branch out and try new things and meet new people. Don't hold yourself back.

2. Attend spring sports games with your friends.

Gustie athletics aren't just in the fall or winter! Once the snow melts, head over to the baseball and softball fields to catch a game or cheer on your Gusties on the Track & Field and tennis team.

3. Get a ticket to the big spring concert!

Every other year there is a big concert at Gustavus put on by the Campus Activities Board. We still don't know who is playing at this year's concert, but I bet it will be fun no matter what so you shouldn't miss out on it!

4. Get coffee at River Rock or Diamond Dust.

Nothing is better than a delicious vanilla latte after or before a busy day of classes.

5. Find that perfect study spot.

Maybe it's the Lib, or the Courtyard Cafe. It's there somewhere.

6. Go for a walk in the Arb.

Gustavus is so lucky to have such a beautiful place right on campus. Make sure to check it out!

7. Try something new in the Caf.

The Gustavus cafeteria has so many types of food each day. Why not try something new instead of sticking to your usual?

8. Go on a Habitat for Humanity trip over Spring Break.

Each year Gusties travel to three sites around the country over spring break to build homes with Habitat for Humanity. Unfortunately, applications were due for this Spring Break at the end of November, but you can keep this in mind for next year!

9. Hit the gym in Lund.

Gustavus has great gym equipment for you to use right on campus. Spend 20 minutes using it each day, and I bet you will be feeling great just after a few days.

10. Take lots of photos.

You can never have too many photos! Of course, let yourself truly experience these moments, but why not capture a few of them along the way?

11. Use a planner.

No, but actually use it. Don't just carry it around.

12. Make memories with your friends and have fun!

The best part about college is spending four years with some of your best friends! Find fun things to do and have the time of your life. The college life will fly right by before you know it.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
