When people say they need guns for protection, who are they trying to protect?
Because at first count it seems like no one, and numbers can’t lie. One of the many quotes I am tired of hearing is, “Guns don't kill people, people kill people." How about we press pause on that argument and ask ourselves if there’s any way we can stop people from killing people. OH! I know!
Let’s take their AK-47's away.
What world do I live in where my neighbor needs an AK-47? I know it’s tough on the mean streets of New Jersey between the Wawa and the elementary schools but isn’t that just a tad bit excessive?
Mind you, I’m not against people owning guns but when the current tally of mass shootings in our country is over 300, it's time to take a step back. I don’t understand how after tragedies like Sandy Hook, Nevada, and most recently California, we can still pretend that there isn’t a problem. Out of the 56,105 instances of gun violence, only about 1,800 were classified as defense use.
There is a clear issue with how guns are being distributed in America and unless someone enforces some real restrictions, this problem will only grow.
I think we can all say that humans are capable of atrocities and creating new, inventive ways to commit them. But, why is that an excuse to hand them the tools to commit them? Let’s give up that flimsy, swiss cheese like excuse. I don’t know why anti-gun control is so against higher restrictions?
Why do you need a gun in the middle of a target store? Are you scared a soccer mom might bump into you?
I don’t care about what happened in 1966, I don’t understand why that situation is relevant in 2017 but if you think that way, okay. If we had gun control a situation like that and almost every situation afterward would probably be avoided. We want to limit the number of people coming into our country, limit the rights women have to body autonomy, limit who can marry, but guns are where some of you are drawing the line?
