This past week, Gucci officially announced they would be going fur-free starting the next season. They have committed to animal rights, the Gucci CEO Marco Bizzarri made a statement saying, "Being socially responsible is one of Gucci's core values, and we will continue to strive to do better for the environment and animals."
They are joining other fashion brands such as Calvin Klein, Armani, and Stella McCartney.
The remaining unsold fur will go up for auction to support charity. Most of the designers who have gone fur-free say that fur is outdated and not modern. Gucci is at the top of the game right now and one of the most influential fashion houses in the world, with going fur-free they hope to inspire and start the movement of all houses going fur-free.
The Gucci CEO mentioned that technology is too advanced for them to still be using fur, many luxurious materials can be made without using animals. Gucci going fur-free is a huge step in the right direction for the fashion world, many powerful houses are still stuck in the past with fur and all we can do is hope for change.
Fall 2016 Fox Fur Coat on Gucci's website selling for $19,000, will soon be auctioned off for charity.
Gucci Princetown leather slipper is lined with lamb fur and goes for $995. This is one of the most known pieces from Gucci and a best-seller.
Soon these fur coats will not be on the Gucci runway.
This is a big step for the fashion industry and we hope to see more changes like this in the future.
