Grown-ish, a new spinoff series from the show Black-ish, follows the life of Zoey Johnson as she embarks on her college journey. Similar to when Denise Huxtable left The Cosby Show for A Different World, this is like the equivalent. However, one major difference is (I’m pretty sure) that Zoey is not going to drop out of school after her first year of college, like Denise did. I do not think that this show would survive without Zoey Johnson.

Another major difference between A Different World and Grown-ish is that this show is definitely catered towards college students and it is not a show for everyone. If you have seen some of the episodes of this new show, it is clear that the creators of Grown-ish were really trying to create a show that focuses on young adult life. Episodes about students using Adderall in order to stay focused in school, and episodes talking about how hookup culture is a growing phenomenon in college life, are just a few examples of how young adults will relate to this show. The soundtrack of Grown-ish also reflects the musical interests of many young adults today, which again makes the show more relatable.

College has changed a lot since our parents attended, and I think that it’s time for a new show to embrace this change. For example, one of the things that I like about this show is the diversity of the cast. In college, you will meet many different types of people, and I think that this show does a good job of demonstrating this. In college you will meet scholars, you’ll meet potheads, you’ll meet conservatives, you’ll meet activists, and you’ll meet many more different types of people. This is a part of growing up, and the first episode of Grown-ish does a great job of conveying this diversity through the eyes of a new college student.

One of my favorite moments so far this season has to do with the episode that focuses on a topic that all young adults today can relate to. This topic is about the dreadful “U up,” text message. Now some parents might not understand what this text message means, but I’m pretty sure that every college student understands.

The scene that really stands out to me in this episode is when Zoey receives a “U up,” text from one of her college crushes and she does not know what to do. Immediately, Zoey calls all of her girl friends to her room so that they can figure out her next plan of action. A few of her friends think that she should reply to the message, while others think that she should play hard to get, but they also point out that if she is going to respond, she cannot wait too long because then she will miss her window to reply.

There is a lot that goes in to understanding the best way to respond to a “U up,” text message and I encourage all young adults to at least watch this one episode of Grown-ish. Even if you disagree with what some of the characters are saying, at least you will get a good laugh.

Overall, this series is off to a very good start, and I think that the show will only get better from here. Grown-ish comes on at 8 p.m. EST every Wednesday on Freeform.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
