Don't Grow Up Too Fast

You've got the rest of your life ahead of you, but time flies faster with each year.

Don't Grow Up Too Fast

Getting older is exciting. You're presented with numerous opportunities and are able to do new things you never could before. You can't wait for the day when no one else can tell you what to do and can finally make decisions for yourself.

Growing up is great and all, but I'm here to remind you to slow down and cherish every minute. You've got the rest of your life ahead of you, but time flies faster with each year.

Don't grow up too fast.

Don't be too caught up with what comes with the next stage of life. Everyone becomes too obsessed with the future and moving on. Once a milestone is reached, people celebrate for a minute and then move toward bigger and better things.

Don't forget your past. Don't forget the people who helped to get you to where you are now. Don't forget who stood by you and watched you grow, even if you messed up somewhere along the way. Remember the people who loved and cared for you selflessly, putting your wellbeing above their own. Remember those who sacrificed for you to live your exceptional life.

Puberty is a rough patch. You'll get through it and come out more wonderful than ever, but be patient. Hormones will run wild for a couple of years. They'll make you angry, upset, annoyed, tired, and every emotion in-between. Pressure from friends, teachers, and parents will only add to your stress levels. Being a teenager isn't easy, but don't let these years slip through your fingers. Don't waste your time feeling like no one cares enough anymore. Everyone is rooting for you. Those people who stood by you for your entire life are still standing by your side and will not leave you. Go easy on them. Don't snap at your parents, don't fight with your friends, and don't talk back to your teachers. Be respectful. Listen. Learn. Grow.

Don't get caught up in maturing and throwing away all your childish passions. Don't try to conform to fit in. Don't give up on something just because it's considered "uncool." Growing up means exploring what makes you unique and teaching yourself how to be a decent human being. Stand up for your beliefs and interests. Be kind to everyone and even kinder to those who look like they need a friend.

Enjoy your youth. Embrace your imperfections. Show the world that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to, no matter your age. Make the most of every moment you're given without dwelling too much on the future or your past. Live for now and create a life that you're proud of, and one that your mom would be proud of too. ;)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
