Yes, I am pro-life. No, I’m not just concerned with shutting down abortion clinics. Yes, I care about women. No, I don’t think abortion should be legal.
Glad that’s out of the way.
This is not going to be an article about how abortion is wrong.
Well, that isn’t the focus, though I suppose that might bleed through. Instead, this is an article about how one nonprofit organization is bringing people together, providing for jobs and monetary support, and giving counseling to a group of people so often maligned and hated by the very group that professes itself to be pro-life.
The organization I’m referring to is And Then There Were None, and the group of slandered individuals is abortion clinic workers.
And Then There Were None is a pro-life organization devoted to helping abortion clinic workers leave the industry when they wish to get out.
“ATTWN is pro-life without exceptions. But beyond that, we’re pro-ALL life. We’re pro-love. We believe that a clinic worker's life is valuable, too.”
-- And Then There Were None
The members of the “ATTWN” team are former abortion workers themselves; they’ve seen the horrors of the industry, been determined to leave, and found there was really no support on the outside.
Even many members of the pro-life cause didn’t want to help. They saw the former workers not as people who made mistakes, or were trapped in an environment they found toxic, but as criminals.
Well, newsflash, the abortion workers are people too and they have lives. They need help when they wish to get out of that industry.
Because according to people on the inside, it traps you. It sucks you in and keeps you there.
“As former clinic workers, we have a different perspective than others may have - we’ve been in their shoes. And we used those shoes to walk away.”
-- And Then There Were None
And Then There Were None helps in six specific ways. After all, it’s easy to tell someone they should quit their job, but these are people with families to feed. How can they afford to leave?
1. Financially, the nonprofit provides a whole month of replacement wages.
2. Legally, the nonprofit provides lawyers and attorneys to anyone wanting to expose illegal activity.
3. Employment-wise, the nonprofit has contacts in almost every city willing to hire these workers, and they get professional job help.
4. Emotionally, counseling, professional assistance, and individual support are offered.
5. Spiritually, they are provided with Christian pastors and prayers if desired.
6. Healing retreats are put on every year, allowing these former workers to connect and draw support from one another.
And Then There Were None has incredible stories and testimonies of the work they are doing. Over 200 workers have already been helped leaving the industry. When they receive a call, it’s all hands on deck.
It is my goal to someday help this beautiful nonprofit. Whether that ends up being through monetary means, through journalism, or through hard labor, I hope someday to help them.
As a pro-life woman, as a human being, I see the incredible work being done by this group. I hope that others recognize how vital this organization is because as they say in their mission statements:
