Move-in day is behind you and classes have officially begun. Living in a dorm and being completely immersed in a different environment is slowly but surely becoming your new normal. You're finally memorizing some of the street names, and you're not having to rely on Google Maps as much. However, there is still an overarching theme of awkwardness and a certain newness about freshmen year that seems merely inescapable.
Many college students watch "Grey's Anatomy," but little do they know that it features many relatable freshmen year moments. Thank you, Shonda Rhimes, for creating a show that perfectly describes one's freshmen year of college:
The awkwardness of moving to a new town, starting a new school year, but not having any super close friendships yet.
The excitement of finally being in college has died down and you actually start having homework and tests that you are in no way, shape, or form prepared for.... and, besides, you don't even have the energy to prepare for them. You just want to sleep for years.
Accidentally being the roommate that leaves their dirty dishes out....again.
Your family and close high school friends no longer live nearby... which means your left to comfort yourself after a long day.
Drowning in a pile of homework, papers, and studying but also trying to maintain a social life, sleep schedule, and workout regimen.
Getting your first test grade back and realizing that studying in college is going to require much more effort than you ever had to put forth in high school.
Realizing that there are desserts everywhere, meal plans contain every type of food you could ever want, hunger does strike at 1am, and that the "Freshman 15" is completely and utterly real.
And on that note, being hungry at 1 a.m. when the dining hall is closed.
Attempting to get ready and look decently presentable in the five minutes you have before you have to leave.
It took you approximately five minutes to park in high school However, in college it takes you an hour and 15 minutes to even find a parking spot, which is still a mile away from your class.
Then watching someone else get a parking spot immediately.
And at the end of the day, no matter how much you're having to adjust, college is the best and most fun experience you've ever had.
