Growing up in a small town is not always seen as a blessing, but the truth is that it is my greatest blessing. I will always think of Muhlenberg County, Kentucky as my home. Here are 20 signs that you just might understand what growing up in a small town is like.
1. Everyone knows everyone and their business.
2. Your teachers taught your parents and your siblings.
3. You can name everyone in your graduating class.
4. When someone asks where you are from, you name the county instead of the town.
5. Your closest Walmart is 20 minutes away.
6. A bonfire is an ideal night.
7. "Y’all” is in just about every sentence.
8. Seeing barns every mile or so is completely normal.
9. You have way too many cousins.
10. Traffic jams are just tractors holding up cars.
12. Mud is for fun, not expensive baths.
13. There are few street lights and stop signs.
14. You had the same barber or hairdresser since you were a little child.
15. Senior Skips Days were completely real holidays, and you participated in it.
16. Therapy sessions were just driving down a gravel road.
17. It is impossible to date someone that is not your friend's ex.
18. Cows in the middle of the road are not strange.
19. You have said “ dagnabbit ” many, many times.
20. You want to hate it, but you are so glad that you grew up in small-town U.S.A.
