Growing up in a beach town meant spending your summers in the water and under the sun. You'll know these ten things all too well if you grew up by the beach.

1. Sand gets everywhere

When you spend hours at the beach every week, you tend to get sand everywhere. It'll be in your house, in your car, and on your clothes. Even after showering, you still find some sand on you. It seems like no matter what you do, you and everything you own will be lightly covered with sand.

2. You hate it when the tourists visit

During this part of the year, tourists flood your hometown beaches. They take up parking spaces near the beaches, fill your favorite restaurants, and crowd the beaches. Tourists litter the beaches and hog the lake or ocean. Though they bring money to your town, you're not sad to see them leave and have the beach to yourself.

3. You know the secluded spots

For many of you, there's probably more than one beach in your hometown. You know where the secret beaches are, away from the tourists. You have a favorite place you know you can always go to if the main beach is too crowded.

4. The beach is only a few minutes away at all times

Going to the beach never has to be a day trip. You can head to the beach and get there in a few minutes. It's not a big deal for you, and honestly you take it for granted.

5. You have countless bathing suits

Since you spend numerous days at the beach, owning only one bathing suits seems so foreign to you. Honestly, you probably spend just as much time in a bathing suit as you do your regular clothes, so having countless bathing suits makes sense.

6. You've seen the sunset more times than you can count

The sun setting over the water is stunning, and you've spent plenty of times watching it. Watching the sunset feels like the perfect end to a great day at the beach.

7. Winter is extremely boring

When the winter comes, the beaches are covered in snow or are just too cold to go to. The beach is your go-to place, and without it, you feel lost at what to do. You have to wait until it gets warm again to do all your favorite things again.

8. You're either tan or sunburnt

Going to the beach often meant that you were tanner than your friends from other places. Sometimes you spent too much time in the sun and didn't put on enough suntan lotion, and wound up getting sunburned.

9. Most of your friends worked on the beach

Living near a beach means that there were many summer jobs available, which were perfect for high school or college students. You either worked or knew many people who worked as lifeguards, at concession stands, or at nearby restaurants.

10. You miss the beach when you move

When I left for college, I thought that I wouldn't miss the small town I grew up in. Yet, I miss the days on the beach, the food, the secret beaches, and everything else that comes with living in a beach town. If you move away, you'll miss living a few minutes away from a beach at all times.

If you grew up near the beach, going to the beach was part of your daily routine, and you wouldn't have it any other way. Spending those days on the beach is something you wouldn't trade for anything.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
