As making sustainable choices becomes more and more mainstream, beauty brands that are natural, vegan, and sustainable are popping up everywhere. The movement has gained further support from people with sensitive skin, who find that natural beauty products don’t irritate them like their conventional counterparts. Not sure where to start? Check out the brands below:
Beauty Guru Approved: 14e Cosmetics
14e Cosmetics gained serious traction when their Aloe Nourish Sheer Tint made its way into Ingrid Nilsen’s YouTube videos (seen here). Although this line only includes face products, their foundations come in an impressive range of colors and photograph beautifully. Don’t believe me? Check out their Instagram. I can’t wait to see more from this line!
Best All-Around: 100% Pure*
100% Pure has a little of everything- primers, brow products, BB creams, liquid lipsticks, eyeshadow palettes, you name it! The brand caters to all skin tones and is always on top of the latest trends. I’m currently lusting after their upcoming range of matte nude lipsticks… swoon! I’ve found that their eyeshadows rival the quality of Tarte and Urban Decay. While their products can cost a pretty penny, they offer free shipping for purchases over $50 and have sales regularly.
*While the majority of 100% Pure products are vegan, a handful contain beeswax. However, the company has stated that their non-vegan products will either be phased out or reformulated without beeswax in the future.
Luxury Choice: Inika
A favorite of Emma Watson, Inika has made a name for itself in the natural beauty community. Their award-winning line is certified cruelty free, vegan, organic, and Halel. While their shade range is seriously awful (their darkest shade would barely suit someone of Mediterranean descent), their color cosmetics are superb. Their standout products include a warm toned eyeshadow palette, a flattering cream highlighter, and a gorgeous rouge for lip and cheeks.
Available at Sephora: Axiology
Axiology is a lipstick company that is committed to supporting people, animals, and the planet. They donate a percentage of their annual profits to Orangutan Foundation International and PETA, and their lipstick boxes are made of recycled paper sourced from Bali. Their lipsticks and lipstick crayons come in a wide variety of shades and textures, including everything from the perfect 90s brick red to frosty baby pink to matte true black.
Available at Whole Foods: Au Naturale
Au Naturale Cosmetics has become a major advocate of the “Clean Beauty Revolution”, which demands stricter regulation of cosmetics in the United States. The line is vegan, organic, paraben free, and their ingredients are ethically sourced, with many dupes for high end, conventional products (including Bobbi Brown’s famous stick foundation).
BONUS:
While this brand is not exactly natural, the entire makeup range from ELF Cosmetics is vegan! Who would have guessed that one of the most affordable drugstore brands had an ethical twist?
