This past weekend, my grandfather won the coveted award of IBEW Teacher of the Year. The award goes to the best teacher of apprenticeship in all of North America, Canada answer Guam. But I'm not proud of my grandpa only for that reason.
At a young age, my grandpa taught me to always strive for the best. He bought me my first designer handbag, took me shopping in New York. But he always made sure to never take things for granted and to work hard at everything.
My grandpa taught me what love is. 50 years of marriage under his belt taught him what love was to a young nurse right out of school. He was a journeyman on the job that wished for everything in the world for his wife. Three kids and four grandchildren later he proves what love is every day. And I'm aspiring to have a marriage just like him and my grandmas.
My grandpa installed my dad's love of teaching so I can have a love for learning. He dedicated his life to teaching, the act of knowledge and the act of being a great person.
He may have the title of IBEW Teacher of the Year but he has the most important title of being my grandpa.
