Why I Got a Wig

This article is addressed to everyone who has asked me “Why did you buy a wig?” Well let me tell you!

In December 2015, I shaved the majority of my head. I absolutely loved my shaved head, but as a busy (and sometimes very lazy) university student, it became too much of a hassle to maintain. So I am in the process of growing it out. I am leaving the top part of my hair untouched, but when I put my hair up in a bun, I basically look like a dude with a man bun. That’s where I am at right now. I know the transition is going to be awkward, so I bought a wig.

But that’s not the only reason why I bought the wig. I mean, it’s the most valid and “reasonable” reason to explain to most people, but I also got it for these reasons:

1. Cosplay!

How is this one not obvious? I would love to get a Harley Quinn type wig, a dark wavy brown wig for a Heda Lexa (The 100) cosplay, and maybe a Clarke Griffin (also from The 100) season 3 type wig. Of course with cosplay hair, I am going to have to style it myself, but it’s easy to find ‘foundation’ wigs online that one can use to style for their cosplay.

2. Playing dress up

Here’s a low key fact about me, I like to dress up sometimes as different characters. Like a modded-Janina. You know how you can play with modded characters in League of Legends? Sometimes I like to be pirate-Janina or live out my enchantress fantasy, etc. You know? Maybe? It’s fun for me,so just let me live my life.

3. That short-lasting desire for long hair

I have naturally very very thick hair. I hate my natural long hair. It’s gross, it’s cob-webby, and it’s a hassle. I have had my hair above shoulder length for almost 6 years now and I am never going back. Short hair is liberating, much easier to take care of, and it’s just much more me. However, there are times where I wish I had longer hair that I could do cool styles with. This is where wigs come in. I can have long hair for a night and go back to my lovely short hair in the morning. No long-term commitments!

4. Makeup looks

If you’ve been keeping up with beauty trends, you might know that wigs are now becoming popular. Weather it’s to help you fit the right mood of your makeup look, or you are postponing washing your hair, beauty bloggers are helping wigs become a more mainstream accessory.

If you want to change your hair up now and again without serious commitment, wigs are your friend, my friend. I recommend doing research and getting a synthetic lace-front wig. These don’t cost a whole lot (compared to custom or human-hair wigs) and they look pretty nice.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
