To GOP Candidate Scott Wagner, We May Be Young But We're Certainly Not Naive

Making young people feel small and insignificant when they take action on big issues that will directly affect them is despicable.

Dear Mr. Wagner,

You were recently approached by Rose Strauss, an 18-year-old environmental activist, who expressed her concern for the future of the environment. Instead of respectfully answering her question, you belittled her by calling her "young and naive."

I have a question for you, Mr. Wagner. How is youth synonymous with the inability to distinguish right from wrong?

The definition of naive is "showing a lack of experience, wisdom, or judgment." You may not be young, but you are the naive one when it comes to the topic of climate change. Since when does rejecting facts in exchange for monetary compensation make an individual wise? Anyone who ignores the fact that you have accepted $200,000 from the fossil fuel industry and doesn't think to question your integrity is naive.

Your beliefs on climate change reject scientifically proven truths, and your campaign donations prove that your motives are not in the right place.

In an attempt to avoid answering Rose's question, you asked the crowd, "are we going to elect a governor or are we here to elect a scientist?"

You're simply naive to think that you have to be a scientist to accept facts.

It is not a matter of opinion. It's proven by scientists, unbiased researchers who are dedicated to uncovering the truths of life and how the world operates. 97 percent of climate scientists accept the fact that global warming is real, detrimental to the Earth, and has been immensely amplified by human activity. The 3 percent of scientific papers that have stated otherwise have been replicated by scientists to test their credibility. They found that those papers consisted of cherry-picked evidence with biased, incorrect conclusions.

To put the statistic of scientists who accept global warming into perspective, it is equal to the consensus among scientists that smoking cigarettes causes cancer. You wouldn't argue with that statistic, would you? No, it would just make you sound dumb. Arguing that climate change is not real or that humans aren't causing it makes you sound just as idiotic.

Mr. Wagner, you will not be alive when the worst effects of climate change hit. I hope that the campaign donations are worth being remembered as one of the people who stood on the wrong side of history, selfishly putting profit over the well-being of the world.

When you are dead, your money will be gone, but unfortunately, your effects on the environment won't be.

If being "young and naive" means my morals and values are nothing like yours, I always take it as a compliment. Go ahead and call me "young and naive." It wouldn't be the first thing you have said that is a blatant lie.

Sincerely,

Another "Young And Naive" Woman Trying To Take Action Before It's Too Late

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
