Recently in media, there have been a lot of girls who have had their boyfriends pick out their outfits for a week to see the results. At first, I thought this was a stupid idea and a waste of time. But then I decided, why not have some fun and see what happens? So I had my boyfriend pick my outfits out for a week and this is what happened:
Day 1: My boyfriend started out the week by picking a simple lace, long-sleeved top, dark jeans, worn-out ankle boots, and a hot pink scarf (his favorite one of my 10 million scarves). It was a simple outfit that was comfortable but cute.
Day 2: Tuesdays are usually my lazy days, but my boyfriend decided to have me wear a casual outfit. This included a forest-green blouse with a gray cardigan, black jeans, and tall brown boots.
Day 3: My boyfriend always mentions how much he loves me wearing dresses, so he chose this multi-colored, three-quarter-sleeve dress with tights and tall brown boots.
Day 4: I am pretty sure this outfit ended up being my favorite because it was the comfiest. My boyfriend had me wear a long-sleeve, Gordon College T-shirt, leggings, mid-calf boots, and a Washington D.C. baseball cap he bought for me. He also had me wear no makeup because he thinks I'm prettier without it.
Day 5: My boyfriend ended the week with another girly outfit which included a blue floral dress, gray cardigan, forest-green scarf, black tights, and tan Oxford shoes. I could tell he really likes scarves and cardigans.
Ultimately, we were going to end with my last outfit on Friday, but then my boyfriend asked if I could pick his outfits out for a week. And this was the result:
Day 1: The first day I had my boyfriend wear a light-blue long-sleeve shirt, a tan quarter zip, dark-wash jeans, and his black boots. Blue always makes his eyes pop and the tan sweater is one of my favorites.
Day 2: He owns a lot of quarter zips so for day two, I decided to have him wear a simple white T-shirt, a teal quarter zip, light-wash jeans, black boots (practically the only shoes he owns, but that's OK!), and his favorite worn-out flag hat.
Day 3: I decided to change it up halfway through the week and dress him a bit spiffy. His outfit consisted of a navy and white striped polo, khaki dress pants, and black dress boots. This is one of my favorite outfits!
Day 4: Since he owns mostly simply clothing, I was running out of options, but wanted to still have him look a bit dressed up. I had him wear a long-sleeve black polo, dark-wash jeans, and black dress boots.
Day 5: For the last day, I had him wear the outfit he usually wears -- a T-shirt, Boston Fire hoodie, light-wash jeans, black boots, and a baseball cap. Fridays should always be comfy days.
Although many may think this is a weird, goofy thing to do, my boyfriend and I had a fun time and actually learned a lot about one another. We learned that we do have preferences in what the other wears, but ultimately, at the end of the day, we just enjoy each other's company no matter if we are dressed up or in lazy clothes. I personally learned that my boyfriend thinks I am most beautiful when I am not trying to impress anyone but rather embracing my natural beauty. I shouldn't start each day with the mindset of impressing others but should be happy in my own skin and whatever I wear. We both learned that we have our own little quirks like having a scarf or hat collection or owning only a few or a million pairs of shoes. And having a week off of picking out our own outfits actually decreased stress in a great way while the other was having fun picking them out.
I think in a relationship, it's good to try something fun and new no matter how goofy it may be. It will create memories, help you learn about one another, and help you grow in your relationship. It does not matter what other people think as long as you love each other and are finding new ways to grow with one another. If you're in a relationship, try something new and goofy. You won't regret it.
