The Best Part Of Fifth Grade is Being Part Of The GoodWorx Foundation!

As I reflected on this extracurricular activity, I realized that I did a lot of fun activities with an awesome group of students and mentors before I began my journey in middle school.

I attended an extracurricular activity called Goodworx during fifth grade. How did I become interested in this extracurricular activity? It was all thanks to my mother. During back to school night, the mentors of the extracurricular activity introduced Goodworx in the gym and described what the students would do in it. My mother found the extracurricular activity to be very interesting and beneficial. When she heard that signs-ups were in the cafeteria, my mother wanted to sign me up for Goodworx. She urged me to attend the extracurricular activity but I told her that I was not interested in Goodworx at all. Once we went to the cafeteria for the sign-ups, we met the mentor that introduced Goodworx and she wrote my name on the list. She was a very nice woman and her kindness changed my view of Goodworx. I began to feel excitement for it. After my first day of it, it turned out to be very good. I met a lot of students and they were very friendly. Most of the students were diverse and not in my classes. The mentors were very nice as well. Seeing them all made me look forward to Goodworx after classes were over for the day.

Some activities that we did were games like baseball and spud. We also learned some life skills and morals. We also did a cultural diversity night where each of us talked about a country and its culture while our parents made food that represented any culture that they wanted to represent. We did plays on fairytales for the children in the public library. We cleaned up trash on the beaches. We also cleaned the Ronald McDonald house. The plays and clean-ups were part of our service to the community. At the end of the school year, we did a talent show for our families, which turned out to be very good. After the school year ended, we went to amusement parks together during the summer so that we could spend more time together. The last and final time when we saw each other was at a park when we had to get our yearbooks and to sign each other's yearbooks during a weekend when we were sixth graders in middle school. As I reflected on this extracurricular activity, I realized that I did a lot of fun activities with an awesome group of students and mentors before I began my journey in middle school.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
