Dear my home sweet home,
After 20 years I am finally saying my farewell to you - but, it's not you, it's me. Times have changed and opportunities have arisen that have resulted in my final departure from you. You have been nothing but good to me. It is thanks to you I have my best friends, am close to all of my family, and have grown up the way that I have. The people I have met throughout my life, the top of the line schools I attended, and the experiences I have had has shaped me to be who I am today. I will always be Rhode Island. I am La Salle Academy, Saints John and Paul Church, Apponaug Girls Softball League, and so much more. These are identities I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
It is with a heavy heart that I bid farewell to my childhood house, and the only home I have ever known. I must say goodbye to my library card with my name signed in 5 year old all caps chicken scratch. I must say goodbye to the tiny parish school with my eighth grade graduating class of 2012 picture still hanging on the wall. But more importantly, I must say goodbye to all the people who have made me who I am today. Though I am sure the important people will remain in my life, there is no denying that visits will be few and far between. My friends and family have shown me love, acceptance, and loyalty throughout my life, and have always encouraged me to be the best I could be. My teachers, coaches, and mentors have challenged me in all different ways that have made me into the fearless and independent leader I have become.
So thank you, little rhody, for being my perfect place to grow up. I have made so many beautiful memories with the people I love. From sunny beach days to sledding in my best friend's backyard. This is goodbye for now, but life has a way of always bringing you back.
