Dear American Eagle Outfitters,
I've always loved clothes shopping at your store ever since I developed my own sense of style, which was probably in my early teens. Your clothes fit that beachy style I was going for and your jeans always fit me just right. You see, I would call myself a curvy girl and I'm pretty short which means it can be pretty hard for me to find jeans that fit me just right, but your jeans always fit me perfectly and boosted my confidence!
That all changed this year. Last year I bought a few pair of jeggings at your store and they still fit me great, so the other day I went into your store hoping to buy some new jeans for the new school year. To my surprise I no longer fit in your size 12 jeans and I was too humiliated to try on the next size up. Not only did your jeans no longer fit me, your shirts didn't either. I found a plaid pullover I thought was really cute, so I tried it on. The medium fit good except for it being tight in the arms, so I tried on a large and the arms weren't any looser and the rest of the shirt looked like a dress on me. I don't understand why you guys changed the way your clothes fit. Are you really trying to push your customers away?
The thing that really bothers me is in your campaign for Aerie you really push body positivity and self love, but you're going totally against it by changing your sizes and the way the clothing fits. How am I supposed to love my body when it doesn't fit into the clothes I love? Clothes shopping has become a nightmare for me because nothing ever fits the way it's supposed to and sometimes they don't even have my size in stock. No wonder so many girls turn to starving themselves just so they can fit into a piece of clothing. All I'm trying to say is you should really practice what you preach. If you're going to support body positivity then you should have comfortable, well fit clothing for us curvy girls.
That being said I think I'll be taking a break from shopping at your store because I can't put myself through that disappointment and self hate anymore. I might come and visit occasionally because I will forever love your soft and sexy line, but I can no longer put all of my clothing needs in your hands. I have turned to other clothing stores to find the things I need and right now leggings are my best friend because they will always fit this curvy body of mine. I hope you learn we aren't all skinny little things sooner or later because I'd hate to lose the great thing we had going, but for now this is goodbye.
Sincerely, Elizabeth
