As the school year comes to a close, I am filled with emotions.
I am excited I will not have to do any homework or go to class, but I know I will miss a lot about being at the University of Kentucky. I will miss so many things like my friends, extracurricular activities, and the beautiful campus.
One thing is for sure, however, I will not miss living in a dorm. Don’t get me wrong, I live in a super nice dorm with a really comfortable bed and everything one would need to be happy in a dorm setting. Even so, I will not miss it at all, especially because of these five things.
1. Germs
Living in a dorm is essentially living in a petri dish. You will probably get sick and stay sick because germs are everywhere.2. Living with someone else
Although I am doing this again next year, it will be in a much bigger area in which I won’t be able to hear every single thing happening around me. It will also be easier to clean with more roommates helping out.
3. Not being allowed to have certain items
I just want to have a candle, extension cord, or desk lamp with a plastic cover. Is that too much to ask?4. Checking people in/out
It will be so nice when I don’t have to go down to the lobby for a friend to enter or exit the building and they can just come to my door.5. Room checks/floor meetings
I’m a relatively good person who follows the rules. I’m not hiding anything. Therefore, I do not have time for these room checks or floor meetings.
Although I won’t miss a lot about being in the dorms, I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. It led me to my best friends in the world and that has made all the annoying antics worth it.
