While going through many ups and downs throughout 2017, I noticed many bad habits made by others and sometimes even myself. A lot of the bad habits consisted of taking people or things for granted, comparing our lives too much, stressing and worrying about the small stuff, etc.

However, these bad habits did bring lessons in which I learned a lot more about myself as an individual, along with the world around me. I was exposed to how cruel people and the world can be. I was also made more aware of the true beauty of life itself and how short life can truly be. Essentially, the bad habits made in 2017 taught everyone, including myself, that life can be upsetting yet inspiring and scary yet lovely.

Since there was an immense amount of negativity circulating around this past year and not enough positivity radiating, I think it's time to leave some of those bad habits behind. Here are 4 good habits we should welcome into 2018 in order for it to be the best year there is!

1. Worrying less

Worrying always tends to lead to stressing and I feel as if this is a common bad habit everyone can relate too. I'm even guilty of this one because I'll worry and stress about nothing most of the time! This past year especially, I've realized that stressing and worrying does not help the situation but only delays the process of things getting better. Essentially, I've noticed worrying and stressing only prevents you from truly enjoying yourself and the moment you're in. In order to enjoy ourselves more in 2018, let's worry less and limit the stress!

2. Taking things day by day

One of the many things I learned in 2017, is that you have to take everyday one step at a time. I've learned that not everything is going to go according to plan, which is completely okay! Whatever happens, happens for a reason. You also can't live in the past or think too much into the future because that only prevents you from living in the now.

3. Having a positive mindset for everyday

I personally feel like this is a good habit everyone should consider for the new year since it'll only bring in positive vibes! Think about it, if you start off every day with a positive attitude and mindset, then your day will most likely be what you make of it! Essentially, having a positive attitude puts out positive energy and by giving off positive energy, you'll receive it back! Whatever you put out into this world is what you receive back.

4. Being kind to others

In 2017, I felt like not everyone was as friendly to one another as they should've been. Being polite and pleasant to other individuals is not that difficult and besides, life is too short to be mean! By being courteous to others only spreads positivity and makes the world a better place!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
