The world we live in is saturated by expectations of what we think we should look like, feel like, what we should do and what we should be. The culprit is social media, but honestly, no one is going to give that up anytime soon. If you take these three rules to heart and really work on implementing them into your life, you will wake up every morning and go to bed every night radiating happiness from the inside out.

1. Have a healthy relationship with food.

Health is wealth, but you can’t win the lottery. In other words, fitness is a lifestyle that wont happen overnight; you need to dedicate yourself to every day. It starts in your mind with the drive to want to be better. We all have things that motivate us to want to get fit. Never lose sight of why you started your fitness journey, and do not compare your journey to others. Especially beware of social media “fit-spirations” because the pictures you see are probably fake and edited realities designed to make you feel bad.

When it comes to food… eat the damn carbs because life is short. I live my life by having everything in moderation, because dessert exists and I will not deny myself. With that being said, don’t reward yourself with food; you’re not a dog. Look at your body as a Ferrari, and only give it the best fuel by eating clean, whole foods.

Finally, if you want to try lifestyle diets like being keto, vegan, vegetarian, pescetarian, paleo; do it, but educate yourself as much as possible first.

2. Take nights (or whole days) off to pamper yourself.

It's so important to recharge at home with no obligations to see anyone or do anything. Yes, that means telling your friends you're not going to the bars and you are going to bed at 11:00. You are not missing out on anything if you stay in.

Maybe you're feeling so drained of energy and motivation you need a whole day to stay in sweatpants, not wear a bra, and watch Netflix all day. You can’t expect to go, go, go all week without having your body and mind feel run-down.

Now, everyone has a different idea of what the perfect pampering routine looks like. Self-care can be super Instagram-worthy, like taking a lavender bubble bath while reading a trendy book with candles and Lana Del Rey on in the background. Or, it could be watching reality TV and having wine and snacks on the couch. It all boils down to what makes you feel least stressed out and most chill.

3. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

They call it the Golden Rule for a reason. It's definitely easier said than done, especially when there are those people who literally don't know how to act. Yeah, you know the ones. But I taught myself a long time ago that you can never control the things people do or say, but all your power is in how you choose to react to them. Kill them with kindness.

Now, let's focus on the positive vibes. The best way to live your life is to be the person you wish you could meet and be friends with. That will make you feel so much more fulfilled when you’re laying in bed at night and remember when you made people smile, laugh, or just feel good that day. It will really change your life for the better if you have a good outlook of the world and the people in it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
