Going With The Flow

Follow love over worry

Going With The Flow
Brooke Lyn Landon

You've probably heard it before-- "go with the flow," but what is the flow and how do we find it? I like to look at flow as FLOW (Follow Love Over Worry). That's all there is to it. The flow is love, and anything less than that takes us away from flowing with it.

“You spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about your pathway to the future, but all there will ever be is what’s happening HERE, and the decisions we make in this moment are based in either LOVE or FEAR. So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect so we never dare ask the universe for it.” -Jim Carrey

Going with the flow means choosing love over fear. Even when we're going through something that causes fear and worry, like a move or a new job, we have the choice to focus on the problems and chaos it may bring, or the excitement and new wonderful opportunities that await. This freedom of choice in thoughts and focus means that in any moment, we can choose to FLOW.

Many people have gotten so comfortable not going with the flow by worrying, gossiping, and complaining, that going with the flow feels like hard work, and uncomfortable. That being said, if you are aware of your desires and that you want to FLOW, you can deliberately focus and FLOW until it becomes natural. Do you think a professional pianist touched the keys for the first time and sounded like Beethoven? No, it was probably uncomfortable at times and took practice. Going with the flow is no different. It is a skill and it can be mastered.

Our souls, the larger part of us all, FLOWs effortlessly. The more we align with who we are at our core, which holds no resistance, the more we FLOW with ease, joy, and grace. Resistance is man made. FLOW is about aligning with who we really are, not who we unconsciously created. The choice is ours to consciously create our lives into what we want through focus and FLOW, or let our circumstances and current state of being dictate our future. We all have the ability to FLOW and live lives that bring us joy and fulfillment. The question is, will you let yourself FLOW long enough to get it?

Mindartists tip: Deliberately and consciously FLOW as much as you can this week. Write FLOW in a notebook or on an index card that you keep somewhere you'll see often as a reminder. Choose to FLOW through every situation you encounter and thought you think and in time, you will be amazed to see how your life unfolds.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
