It’s graduation day and the reality has finally sunk in that you’re moving across the country for college and leaving everything familiar behind.
The hardest thing is leaving your best friend who has always been there for you, no matter what.
She’s been the shoulder to cry on when you broke up with your boyfriend, she was your partner in crime at
all of the high school events and you spent every waking moment together.
There’s a quote from Sex And The City saying, “Maybe our girlfriends are our
soul mates and guys are just people to have fun with.” I completely agree.
Having moved all the way across the country from Florida to San Diego for school, I can definitely attest to the fact that the long distance
relationship with my best friend is a tough one but, somehow, we manage to keep
our friendship alive. I have endless countdowns on my phone to when I’m going
to see her next, we text and Snapchat nonstop and our Facetime dates are what
I look forward to the most.
Sometimes, it’s as if I’m in a relationship because if no one else is texting me that day, I know she will. We still know every single detail about each other’s lives
and spend hours on Facetime catching up with what has been happening. She’s the
one I’ll be texting at 3 a.m. saying how much I love her and that she’s the
best friend a girl could ask for. I can’t help but get jealous when she makes
new friends, but then I realize she could never replace me and, in the end, it is all okay.
When we finally do reunite, it’s as if I never left and we spend every waking moment
together staying at each other’s places, shopping together, and so much more. I
meet her new friends and it’s like I already know them since she’s told me
everything I need to know about them.
At the end of the day, I’ll always be glad to have my best friend in my life. Although I am on the other side of the
country and meeting so many new people, no matter who I meet, no one can
replace her. Just maybe, our girlfriends are our soul mates and they
are something rare and irreplaceable.
