Christmas break is finally here. Four weeks of lying around and forgetting about every single worry that the semester thrusts upon us. But, when coming home to a small town, things are extremely different than the university life.
Here are the inevitable things that each of us will face when returning to our small town for the holidays.
You get home and realize your house has turned into a Christmas wonderland in your absence.
Your entire home seems to have turned red, green, and sparkly.
Every single neighbor you see and anyone you run into in the super market asks you about school.
Please do not remind me of that place for at least four more weeks.
The entire town seems to have overly decorated for Christmas.
Lights everywhere.
You have pre-planned your meals so that you can hit all your favorite local places.
There’s no place like home for pizza and bagels.
You have to be caught up on all the neighborhood drama.
All of this gossip is a lot of knowledge to retain in such a short time.
Your parents are constantly going to Christmas parties around the neighborhood.
It’s a sad day when you realize your parents have a more active social life than you do.
You Snapchat all of your friends with the local geo-tag, just in case they forgot how awesome you think your town is.
That filter makes an appearance in almost every single Snap you send for the whole month.
Most of your friends live within a two-mile radius of your house, but you are still too lazy to get up and see them.
The couch is just too comfortable.
You would honestly rather hang out with your dog all break than enter the outside world.
There are too many people that you fear running into to risk going outside.
There is absolutely nothing to do.
Besides grabbing food and looking at all the Christmas lights, there is nothing fun at all within your small town.
But the four-week break will go super fast, and you will inevitably once again miss your small town when you go back to school.
There’s really no place like home.
