It's Okay to be Nervous about going back to school
Alexandra Martin

Real talk, I am getting extremely excited to be back at school. I miss being completely dedicated to my studies and seeing my friends every day. However, I am nervous about getting into the swing of things. It sometimes takes me a lot longer than I would like.

I have under a month until I start back and I have realized that it is okay to be nervous. Actually, it is a good thing because it means that I care. I care about doing well academically, working on my friendships, cultivating a better relationship with God, and seeking out the best opportunities for myself.

There's no doubt that I love to stay busy. I have already found myself planning dinners with friends and filling out my planner with important dates. However, whenever I start to look at all of my responsibilities, I get nervous that I won't have time for myself. I know it is a good thing to stay active in whatever you are passionate about, but it's hard to do so in a realistic manner.

I have surrounded myself with strong women who have a huge love for learning and desire to become amazing leaders. They are going to change the world one step at a time, and I also have those same ambitions. To say that I am nervous is an understatement.

There are a lot more responsibilities that you have when you move to college. If you stayed with your parents over the summer, then you most likely didn't have to do your own laundry or make most of your food. Whether you are staying with your parents or in your own apartment, coming back to college is a big change. There is almost double the responsibility that you had at home.

One thing that we all have to remember is that it is okay to ask for help. We are human, and we can't do everything on our own. If you are nervous, you especially might need an extra hand on doing something the first few times. I know that I might need some encouragement when I am deciding where I want to go to church back at school. And you know what? That is perfectly fine because I am not the only one who is going to be nervous.

A piece of advice that I would give to anyone nervous about going back to school is to just keep being yourself. You know yourself the best, and if you need to say no to something, then say no. If you want to join more organizations because it will help you stay busy, then join other organizations. It is okay to be nervous. It is okay because it means that you are ready for growth.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
