If you don't know, last summer I went on a missions trip to Haiti for 2 weeks. Something I haven't shared with anyone is the journal I kept when I was there. Tracking my life there, and writing down every moment I felt was important. I want to share with you about the last day I was in Haiti, and something I learned that will be crucial for the rest of my life. My calling.
June 19th,
Last Day. Today was actually very easy. We started off with the normal morning and ended up going to church which started around 8:30. Because we went last week, we definitely felt more comfortable. It was another great experience being able to hear the great worship and sermon from the group that's from Florida. After church, which is about two hours long, we headed off to the beach which was about an hour and a half away. It was very nice to get into the salty water and really hang out and have fun. It was awesome to see the ocean as well as the mountains surrounding us. Overall fun time. After heading back which was around 7 we did our normal routine of dinner and devotions. This devotions was special because of the fact that we were talking about how we were going to apply this experience to our own life. I understand that God is not calling me towards missions abroad but missions right in my local community and definitely in the US. This trip was more than I could hope for. My eyes were opened to things I never imagined. There aren't enough words to describe all of my feelings but one thing I can say is that God is in Haiti. He is actively working in the lives of everyone in this beautiful but broken country. There is so much more than to assume everything that goes in Haiti. Missions is a lifestyle; and I'm ready to go back to the US with fresh eyes. The church is so important here in this country and its truly been great to work with the people here and not for them. Friendships have been made, and I'm thankful for the new found relationships I have with my group and every Haitian I came in contact with. I'm forever grateful for this experience.
I learned that night, that God was calling me to work in worship, here, in the US. Like I said, I'm forever grateful for that experience to be in a different country and I would highly recommend it. I didn't know that in a different country God would place a guitar in my hands and would allow me to lead worship to his people in a different country. I didn't know that I would even use my musical abilities at all. Yet, he provided. He showed me what I need to keep doing for the rest of my life.
