C.S. Lewis said, "I am certain God keeps no one waiting unless He sees it's good for him."We live in a world of instant gratification.
We have our cell phones glued to our hands –– constantly waiting on a text with tonight's plans, always scrolling through Facebook , Twitter , and Instagram trying to catch the latest news. The world doesn't know how to wait anymore.
When we bring our greatest desires to the feet of Jesus and don't get an answer right away or the answer we want, we begin to think that maybe the Lord has forgotten us. Maybe He just doesn't love me as much as He loves my friend.
How many times have we given up on a prayer because it doesn't seem to be "working?" I believe that sometimes God says, "not right now" to our prayers because only He can know what is truly best for us.
Maybe he is drawing out our faith and in turn giving us a deeper, fuller reliance on Him and His plans for us.
Romans 12:12 states, "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer."
Our prayers are never unanswered, however, every prayer is laid at the feet of Jesus. Sometimes He will say yes, but sometimes it will be "No" or "Not right now." It is for our benefit to see what the Lord has for us.
The greatest example of unanswered prayer is Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. Matthew 26:39 says, "Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Because God said no to Jesus' prayers, we have the opportunity to live an abundant life in Heaven.
When we pray, we are talking to the one who has purchased us with His own Son's blood. We should "pray without ceasing" because it is a privilegeto talk to the King of Kings.
God wants a relationship with us and prayer is our cell phone to Him.
Prayer deepens our trust in Him. Sometimes, though, we look for answers to our prayers in the roaring lion, when really it could be in the soft whisper of the wind. The answer is always there.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." –– Philippians 4:6-7
