When I first came to the great state of Mississippi, I never knew the impact it would have on me. More importantly, I didn't know the impact it would take on my soul. Like many at Ole Miss, I often forget the beauty of my own campus. I take it for granted because I get to see its beauty every single day. During my walk to class or my journey from class, the simple elegance of campus is simply breathtaking. The sway of the trees, the constant splash of the Phi Mu fountain, the sounds of laughter and southern accents, the feel of being a part of a community so much bigger than ourselves, the lovely Grove squirrels, the feel of the warm Mississippi sun on your skin, and the absolute beauty of God's creation every which way you look.
"He has made everything beautiful in its time," Ecclesiastes 3:11
God took his sweet ole time creating Mississippi. He looked at Mississippi and blessed it with hills and valleys, southern good-loving folk, and a skyline that is too pretty to not remind you of God's great creation. When God looked at Mississippi, he smiled and blessed it one more time, this time greater than before, with the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss may be named the most beautiful campus, because it is, but people often leave out the most beautiful part of campus -- the people themselves. You and me and the person sitting next to you, we all make up a community more beautiful than any other in the nation. Bonded over Ole Miss football, through CRU, or over the fight for Dixie or the flag, everyone you see on campus is bound to give you a smile, hold the door for you, or ask you "how you're doing".
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good: His love endures forever," Psalm 107:1
Every campus on this nation is blessed with its beauty, but to me and a fellow 20,000 of my friends would have to agree that Ole Miss was blessed a little longer than the rest. Her beauty is forever seen when you look at the amazing things God has put in front of us. For giving us the most beautiful state and campus, we owe the Lord a big thanks -- and a Hotty Toddy to my fellow Rebels out there!
