I recently saw this poem/story by Savannah Locke. I had never heard of her until this post went viral and I was immediately in awe of her wisdom.
It takes time for things to be made perfect because everything is perfect in God's time.
Sometimes God's timeline does not match up with our own and as annoying and frustrating as it can be, we have to accept it. We measure ourselves based on society, based on friends, and based on people we don't even know and it gets us nowhere.
Compared to basically everyone I am really, really bad at math. Because of that I probably won't graduate college on time but also because I am so bad at math that also means I spend extra time working with professors, TAs, and tutors because I know that that is the only way I will be successful. All throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I was extra close with the people who taught me math because I knew I needed to be. My mom would help me practice multiplication every single morning on the way to school with flashcards because she also knew I needed extra help.
The extra time it took me, and still takes me, to even slightly pass a math class is not a bad thing. It is not a bad thing that I may not graduate college at the same time as a lot of my friends because I am taking the time I need in order to get the grade I need.
Being bad at math does not make me any less of a human. Just like being bad at English doesn't make anyone else less of a human. Some things take time and that is good.
One of my most favorite Bible stories is the one of Sarah, Abraham, and their son Isaac. Sarah was not even close to in her prime when God told Abraham that she would have a son, but because of that her womb and their son Isaac were drenched in prayer. It took time, faith, and patience for Isaac to be born and wow look at what all he did.
Now, I am not saying that my inability to do math will one day turn into me being some brilliant mathematician, but prayer and patience can turn any doubt into the most beautiful thing.
God things take time and that is perfect.
Realizing that just because you aren't where you want to be, but you are right where God needs you to be is beautiful.
You have to stop measuring yourself with the world's ruler because the Ultimate Ruler created you for a time and purpose.
You do not follow the world's calendar, you follow God's divine plan for your own life.
