If God Doesn’t Exist, Then How Do You Explain Girl Scout Cookies?

Nothing but divine intervention could create something as extraordinary as a Thin Mint.

There are a handful of questions that have sparked debate among human beings for as long as anyone can remember.

Questions such as, “What is the meaning of life?” and “Will I ever find love or be happy?” And of course, the question of whether God exists. The question of God has sparked debate among many of the greatest thinkers to ever live, and churches, classrooms and family gatherings still debate the topic to this day.

Some people live their lives completely based on their religion, while others claim to be religious, even though they rarely pursue their religious beliefs. Then there are those who do not believe in a higher power, so they must fulfill their soul through other means.

However, those who deny the existence of God are missing one very important fact. The answer to whether God exists has been staring us in the face this whole time. It is something that comes along once a year, and brings joy and happiness to all. You guessed it. If God doesn’t exist, then how do you explain Girl Scout cookies?

The most convincing evidence for why God exists can be found in these delightful desserts that apparently help teach valuable life skills to young girls or something to that effect. It does not make sense that those who deny God’s existence can believe in a world where something as purely delicious as a Thin Mint can be created without some form of divine intervention.

For those of you who do not know, a Thin Mint is a small mint cookie with a chocolate coating, and it is basically the most delicious thing in the entire world. There is just no possible way that man alone could create something this perfect without help from a higher power. Maybe humans could invent Samoas, maybe even Tagalongs, but there is just no way that they could invent Thin Mints. The human race is simply not that talented.

Some might argue that the amount of pain, poverty, disease and suffering in the world suggests that there is no God out there to hear our prayers, but regardless of everything horrific in the world, we still have Girl Scout cookies, conveniently priced at $5 a box, and therefore there must be a God out there somewhere.

There must be something else out there. There has to be. Otherwise, what is the meaning of anything? Otherwise, how the hell did Girl Scout Cookies come to be? Sure, praying to the Lord may seem helpless at times since you don’t exactly get a prayer back in return. And sure, some religion does seem to be based more on hypocrisy than anything else and sure, believing in an old, bearded man sitting up in the sky all day and deciding whether those who pass away receive eternal life or eternal damnation may seem slightly far-fetched. But it has to be true, and the evidence is for sale outside most local grocery stores this time of year.

The Bible says that God created the Earth in six days and on the seventh day, God rested. What the Bible fails to mention, however, is that while God was resting on the seventh day, He got hungry and decided that He needed a snack. With nothing available in the heavenly pantry, he decided to create something new, a perfect snack created in His image. Behold, the first Girl Scout Cookie was born.

The fact that The Girl Scout Cookie Argument is not required reading material in every single college philosophy course studying the question of God is completely baffling. It is the most convincing proof out there, and yet many choose to ignore it.

In Biblical times, Jesus performed miracles such as walking on water and resurrecting the dead, and some have said that if God and Jesus existed and performed miracles back then, why can they not perform miracles now? The answer, which these skeptics fail to see, is that the greatest miracle of all is right before our very eyes. Yes, I’m talking once again about Girl Scout cookies. It takes a true miracle to create something so delicious.

The world still needs convincing of this, but as a society, we will get there eventually. The point is, next time you enjoy a Thin Mint or a Tagalong, say a little thank you to our Lord and savior for creating such a scrumptious treat for you to enjoy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
