Ah, the holidays, a time to celebrate family, friends, and old traditions. But with Christmas music infiltrating the airwaves, and decorations going on sale a week after Halloween, sometimes we forget what comes between. Thanksgiving is near, and there are a few things we should not forget.
To begin, Thanksgiving is more than just Turkey. It is a day where we come together, whether it is with friends or family, and give up a few hours of the day to eat and laugh about old memories.
Now, don't misunderstand, I love Christmas. My cat also loves the holiday too, but for his own reasons (hint: a glowing tree and sparkly ornaments). But, I would love to celebrate Thanksgiving before "Jingle Bell Rock" blares on the radio.
If we forget about, or bypass, Thanksgiving then we forget about a simple holiday that does not require gifts or singing of any sort. All it requires is some good food, those you love, and good stories, even if they are embarrassing. The turkey did not sacrifice itself, or whatever main dish you serve, to be a front row seat to drama.
So, this Thanksgiving, give thanks for those who are always there for you and enjoy their company, even if it involves napping in the same room. Sometimes we don't say how much we appreciate someone enough.
