TikTok.
You might have heard of it, or maybe you haven't. If you haven't heard of it, to quickly sum it up, TikTok was once called Musical.ly. On this app, children, teens, young adults, and adults create 60-second videos. These videos consist of everything from sketches, lipsyncs, makeup tutorials, and storytimes.
But people who have heard of TikTok usually think of it as a child or teen-oriented app that is full of cringe-worthy content, such as poorly done lipsyncs or embarrassing moments captured on video. And sure, those types of videos are on there, but it is so much more.
I also thought TikTok was an embarrassing app, only meant for children. Then, one day, a friend sent me a funny video from TikTok. In this video, there wasn't a child or teenager in sight. It was of a dog! A dog taste-testing food and giving his opinion. It was so cute that I wanted to watch more.
So, I downloaded the app and followed this account.
Then, my For You page began to fill up with dog videos. Then slowly with other animal videos. Finally, I began to find people who made videos that interested me.
The accounts I found were of people my age talking about odd moments that happened during their day and their college life, and creating funny sketches and lipsyncs that just have me saying, "Relatable."
TikTok is more than just those cringey videos that end up on Instagram and Twitter. It is full of people who have talent, people who are able to make me and thousands of others laugh or become impressed in under 60 seconds.
So, if you are like me and watch TikTok way too much, don't let people judge you for it because it is a great platform. Also, if you don't watch TikTiok videos, give it a chance! There are so many creative and talented people on the app that are waiting to be seen.
