In the new world we're in revolved around technology, politics, and the insensitivity towards others, it is easy for people to lose the meaning of kindness. People can think that ways of being kind to include having to lose personal benefits, like money or time, but here are 10 ways that don't require much of both.

1. Compliment a stranger.

Despite how embarrassing it may be, we all know the feeling we get when people do it to us. It's simple to do and it really works.

2. Sit next to someone you usually don't sit with.

If you're at the school lunch table or working at a new job, this is a great way to reach out and potentially make someone's day a little happier.

3. Volunteer at the local shelter, food pantry, or hospital.

These are just a few options out of hundreds that you can choose from.

4. Have understanding

People have so many diverse backgrounds and stories that are unique to them. It's crucial to understand and accept that no matter who they are or where they came from, they are just as important as you are.

5. Hold the door open for people.

It's the little things that count.

6. Reach out to a new friend.

Inviting a new friend to dinner or girls night out will make whoever it is feel accepted and wanted, both of which we all desire to be. Plus it could give you the newest member of your squad.

7. Bring treats for your co-workers.

Whether they're store bought or homemade, I guarantee your co-workers will feel the love.

8. Tip your waiter or waitress a little extra.

The Etiquette of Tipping

I'm not saying you have to leave a $100 on the table every time you go out but occasionally tipping more than the standard 20% could go a really long way.

9. Let someone know you're there for them.

With all of life's craziness and busy schedules, it can be really hard to keep up with friendships. Sending a simple message to a friend saying you love them and are thinking of them could help them in more ways than you know.

10. Give up your seat.

Take a back seat for senior bus passengers.

Maybe it's because I was raised in the South and this is a given in our manners handbook but it's also just a really kind thing to do. If you're on the bus or at a restaurant and see someone that could probably use the seat more than you, please consider it. If this Bob Ross doppelgänger can do it, so can you.

Kindness looks good on you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
