If you consistently spend a good amount of time in the weight room, these 13 thoughts have definitely crossed your mind at some point.
1. When someone switches it up and tries a workout out of the ordinary.
We all work hard every single day, focusing on the same muscles over and over again. Trying a new superset or different way to target a muscle group is both exciting and challenging. Therefore, when spotting someone use a machine for a totally different body part, all you can think is, bravo my dude.
2. When your music stops and you hear someone grunting.
Some are more vocal than others, either way, a loud noise from a human is always startling. As much as the effort is respected, I cant promise not to jump out of my skin at the sound of you letting out a yell followed by a weight slamming to the floor.
3. When you walk away to fill your water bottle and someone takes the machine you were using.
This is an everyday struggle especially in a college weight room where there are limited equipment and an abundance of students trying to use it at once.Nothing is worse than somehow lining up with everyone in the weight room that day and fighting over the only two seated cable rows and lat pull downs.
4. “How many sets do you have left?"
Commonly used as a pickup line at the gym, or typically to time out the conclusion of someone's occupancy on a machine that you want to use. This only becomes extremely obnoxious when it is repetitive from the same person, someone watches you walk over to a machine and not begin but still continues to ask or there is clearly another machine with the same purpose free for use.
5. Walking straight into that death cloud.
A lot of people who eat healthy food, and take a lot of vitamins and supplements in one small space, enough said.
6. That moment after lifting for a while or doing cardio that you stare into space for 5 minutes straight.
Usually happens on a Monday or just at the comedown of a tough workout. The first sign that you have probably been there for a long period of time and it would benefit you to head home before you fall asleep on the foam roller.
7. Getting off the treadmill after running 3 miles and running straight into someone you know.
Exactly what you want to do with a beat red face and enough sweat to mistake for a shower, talk to someone.Even worse than just seeing someone you know, seeing someone you try to impress on a regular day. We have all been there and there's really nothing you can do but stand there and focus on trying not to breathe too hard on their face.
8. Walking out of the gym after a good leg day.
Just keep adding plates on that leg press and continue to add sets onto your deadlift session and before you know it you'll be struggling to take another step towards the exit. If leg day goes as planned the only way to get home is to crawl.
9. After hitting a new PR
LET'S GOOOOO!!! Nothing is more rewarding than looking at an amount of weight that you have never lifted before and powering through it. This is a face of pure conquer, success and excitement; you killed it.
10. When someone asks you about a workout you do.
Some of the best questions someone can ask you at the gym. How pleasing it is to know people notice the effort you put into certain aspects of working out. For those who are just starting out, I encourage you to ask as many questions as you can, not only will it help you improve but it' an easy way to highlight someone's hard work and dedication, they will appreciate it.
11. Tripping or hitting your head on something while trying to set up for a workout.
Happens to the best of us a handful of times, those metal attachments sneak up on you, especially lingering right above eye level.
12. When the pre-workout hits.
Shakes, twitching, massive sweating and heart palpitations? Yup, that's the pre-workout hitting right when you get into your lift and you think to yourself, "I probably should've stuck with one scoop."
13. When someone comes over to you, gets you out of the zone, and makes you take your headphones off just to complain.
"I don't want to be here right now."
"You'll never guess what happened to me today."
"It's so crowded."
We all have those days that we are just not into it and although it's tempting to warn people why you are walking around like a zombie, it's unnecessary to jinx their energy.I would love to hear about your statistics class and your new internship, over lunch... keep it short and sweet, people.
I hope these 13 thoughts bring some humor to your day. If you are in the weight room enough to understand some of these, keep up the great work!
