I'm flattered that you clicked on this link but I hope your expectations aren't too high. I'm definitely not a poetry whiz, so don't expect anything too mind-blowing here. I'm currently taking a creative writing class and we're right in the middle of our poetry unit, which has been extremely fun but a little bit challenging. I was told to write some poetry, and this is what happened. Be warned that some of them might not make sense, but just go with it. Hope you enjoy and don't rip my hard work to shreds with your harsh criticism.

Rain taps a window

Daisies perk up with the sun—

Earth reborn each dawn

The Final Buzzer

Every athlete knows the feeling

The death of all you’ve ever known

In a split second

The thin line between past and future shatters

And you’re lost in time

You hear the crowd erupt

For the last time

Step off the field

For the last time

Give back your jersey

While leaving a piece of you with it

And you hear your heart break

For the first time

Sit Still, Look Pretty

A woman’s voice should be suppressed

For surely a man can say it better

“Just hold your tongue and look your best”

Unwanted opinions pose a pest

Her brain a collection of clutter

A woman’s voice should be suppressed

Comments hurled directly at her chest

It’s only their manly chatter

Just hold your tongue and look your best

Hands claim what eyes undress

Such a compliment should flatter

A woman’s voice should be suppressed

Her confidence repossessed

The world labels her a submitter

Just hold your tongue and look your best

Despite how hard she might protest

Her words seldom seem to matter

A woman’s voice will be suppressed

Just hold your tongue and look your best

Self-destructive

There are few moments in life

That impact us to the point of breaking

But there are even fewer

Undeniably breathtaking

Still we sometimes forget what happiness feels like

Our hearts used to the aching

Instead of allowing our minds to ease

We offer our hearts up for the taking

Letting anger burn our throats

Voices trembling and shaking

Constantly giving into destruction

We are disasters in the making

Happiness

It is not earned

Never formed within

But rather found and passed along

Growing contagiously

Happiness is a person

A place

A moment

Happiness is discovered unexpectedly

It is not planned

But found in the most extraordinary places

Highly sought after

But only those not searching will stumble upon it

Happiness is experienced through the eyes of the observer

There is no common definition

No consistent evidence present

The only marks it leaves behind are twinkling eyes

Uncontrollable laughter

And feelings of warmth without heat

Happiness has the potential to fill every aspect of our lives

If one only looks closely enough

Heart of the Storm

Teardrops from the sky

Streak my bedroom window

Sunbeams blocked by gray

Earth awaits a rainbow

Thunder longs for comfort

Its moans echo low

Light flashes across dark

Its remnants aglow

The air holds a secret

One I long to know

I sense nature’s sorrow

Feel its dreadful woe

Its energy inside me

Stormy eyes that show

Intense thunder within

Continuing to grow

Friendship Heartbreak

It was my first love

Not of intimacy

But of true friendship

I gave you all of me

My raw personality

My heaviest burdens

My purest thoughts

My deepest secrets

And I was no longer alone

It was more than me

It was us

We were inseparable

Mine

Yours

The line was fuzzy

We blurred together

But there never is perfect balance

One end is always heavier

My heart weighed more than yours

And you dropped it

You dropped me

So there I sat

As you ripped away a piece of me

And carried it with you

To bigger and better places

To bluer skies

And brighter sunsets

And I watched as you left

Still

Cold

Alone

My fragile heart shattered into shards

It was broken

But continued to beat

Sometimes it skipped

Sometimes it stopped

For a battered heart still functions

But instead of your echo

There was silence.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
