To The Girl That Guards Her Heart

The right one will come along and patiently wait as you deconstruct the wall you so carefully built

Whether it be because a boy has damaged you or you're scared to be broken, you find it incredibly difficult to open up to anyone. You tell yourself that you are ready to start new with someone else, be adventurous and let the cookie crumble the way it may. But in the moment, your heart races and the thoughts in your mind start creating chaos. And just like that, the wall that you thought was going to start to slowly deconstruct itself has become sturdier than ever. But because of this, when will you know when the wall should come down?

Have Your Voice Heard: Become an Odyssey Creator

The thought of destruction speaks louder than the thought of letting your heart go even slightly unguarded. It could have been because of a boy that you thought would never take advantage of your heart, but he did. He might have forgotten the consequences of his rather unthoughtful course of actions. Then you were left to gather all of the pieces that lay scattered. The pieces are then thrown together haphazardly and held together with duct tape. But what we often forget is that over time, things grow stronger and more cohesive than they have ever been before. That duct tape falls away and what is left is something that has been tempered and changed for the better.

Opening yourself up to someone is often hard, to begin with. The wall only seems to grow taller and more impassable with heartbreak. This wall seems to be permanent and trusting someone else becomes so very hard to do. But those who are truly worthy will be persistent and slowly break that wall down, brick by brick. The right one will bust down that wall and act like you knight in shining armor to protect your precious heart.

You're right to guard your heart of the cruelties of the world. Not everyone should be able to crack your defense around your heart, it doesn't work that way. God will bring that right person into your life and they will be beyond patient with you. They will want to get to know you for you and be considerate when you're not ready to open up about your past. And they won't press an issue that makes you uncomfortable to talk about. You won't feel pressured to break down that carefully constructed wall, that protects what makes you you.

It's a risk to let your guard down and sometimes you are going to be wrong about a person. But life is a learning process, even when you think you have mastered something. You let the wall come down at your pace and that boy will patiently wait and hold your hand whenever you need a little extra help. Love is a very powerful emotion that can cause great havoc and that's the scary thing about it. But love can also cure things that you didn't even know that needed to be cured.

So guard your heart for as long as you want, because the right one will help you deconstruct it when the time is right. One day, all of the risk and precaution is going to be worth it.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
