We only have one skin!
Make sure you take care of it!
So I used to have really bad skin when I was in middle school and high school. I finally got prescribed Accutane; which was a prescription drug on the market that was heavily regulated. I stopped taking it that pill was a miracle because my face cleared in one year. It is literally a miracle drug!
The best time to start taking care of your skin is now! I know when I was younger I hated washing my skin. Now, it is like brushing my teeth if I don't do it; I don't want to deal with the repercussions. HEAVEN forbid I have to go to the dentist my motivation is maintaining my own teeth. In college, I had many nights of dancing all night and coming home and falling asleep with makeup on. There will be stages in life when you are just not doing things to the best of your ability, but one day it will just click. And from that moment on you will be doing things differently.
Now I am in grad school, late nights of dancing still occur but when I get home you better believe I wash my face. And brush my teeth guys I am not that gross! So the bottom line is you should start your habits young. Wash your face in middle school or even high school just for your skin's benefit. So if you haven't started washing your face you should start now.
Stop making excuses!
These excuses are what I am talking about: Your face is really dry so you don't want to dry it more with soap. You don't know what to use. You don't want to hinder your acne so you just don't touch it.
What should I use?
So a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer and lastly sunscreen in the morning. You are probably asking, "who wears sunscreen when you are not even at the beach?" Yours truly! The sun although it feels so warm and nice it is not good for you. Where have you been? Skin cancer is a thing and it is not new it has been around enough to know that we need to protect ourselves. Ditch the tanning beds try self-tanning lotions.
What else?
The other additions depend on what kind of skin you have. If you have dry skin a toner will not dry your skin out, but it helps with the size of your pores! Toner will also take off any excess dirt or makeup left behind from the cleanser. It will restore your skin's pH balance. Adds a layer of protection and holds in the moisture. My favorite reason is it makes your skin feel so refreshed.
You also need a hydrating serum. So everyone has been talking about hyaluronic acid. So that is the type of acid but there are several brands. I like to do research on products before I buy them but, what you need to make sure that you are using a good percentage of hyaluronic acid. I also found out you can take a supplement in your food to increase hyaluronic levels. Our levels of hyaluronic acid decrease by 50% when we age.
If you have wrinkles and fine lines you need hyaluronic acid and in addition retinal. So retinal is vitamin A, but a higher concentration and its job is to reverse sun damage and signs of aging. Yes, I mentioned it again protect yourself from the sun! Or you will be working to reverse all the sun damage you have caused yourself over the years!
If you have oily skin you also need a toner and if you have acne you need a spot treatment. Benzol peroxide is the ingredient that treats acne the best. If its mild to a medium range that is the cure. If it is more severe then it might be time to consult a dermatologist.
If you have darker spots due to birthing, or aging, the sun, or whatever the cause is, retinal is going to be the best. Melasma is dark spots on your skin and exfoliation will be good for your skin. Sunscreen will help prevent the spots from getting darker. A derma roller will help get the retinal to the proper layer of your skin.
