Why Every Girl Should Try Short Hair Once

I know I probably lost some people with that headline, but for the brave souls who decided to click on this, just hear me out. Short hair gets a bad rep sometimes, but you don't quite understand how great it is until you try it yourself.

I understand why a lot of girls don't want to cut their hair, especially if it's extremely long. I was in that exact same place at one point in my life. Until I was about 17, I had hair down to my waist and I was extremely protective of it. Any haircut that took off more then 2 inches was extreme to me and I wanted no part of it.

While I never wanted to get rid of the length, I always liked to experiment with different hairstyles. Layers, angles, bangs, no bangs, side bangs -- I tried everything I could possibly think of. Inevitably, I always got bored with whatever new hairstyle I picked and my long hair would end up in a ponytail, and what's the point in that?

Finally, my mom convinced me to try a short hairstyle when I was 17. I went from hair down to my waist to hair that just touched the end of my earlobes. It took me a while to get used to, but looking back, I can honestly say it was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made.

For starters, there is no knots in my hair. Ever. That reason alone makes me want to jump for joy because I would spend so long trying to get knots out of my long hair without ripping out strands in the process. I dry my hair in about 10 minutes, maybe less. I use so little shampoo and conditioner now as well.

As for styling, I don't have much skill. I can do makeup fairly well, but hair was never something I learned how to do properly. With short hair, you don't have to style too much, really. Half the time, I rock my bedhead as a style and people buy it anyway. It just makes life so easy.

And maybe you're thinking, but I heard boys don't like short hai-

I'm going to stop you right there. Any boy you're interested in should understand that it is your hair, and if it makes you happy, then that's all that matters. If a boy makes a big deal and fights about a haircut, do you really want to be with that person anyway?

I know for those who have extremely long hair, it's daunting to have it all be gone in a matter of minutes. But always remember, hair grows back. If you don't like it, leave it alone for a few months ad you'll have some length again!

All I'm trying to say, is don't knock short hair till you try it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
