On Sunday, it seemed like the world stopped spinning. Acclaimed and famed Lakers basketball star, Kobe Bryant and seven other amazingly beautiful people lost their lives in a tragic helicopter crash.

The way the news broke was unacceptable. The media is to blame for many false assumptions made about who was involved in the crash, and none of the families were notified by authorities before TMZ broke the news, since police didn't have time to reach them before it happened.

When the news broke about Kobe's death (the others hadn't yet been identified), I couldn't help but think about my dad. In an interview with Elle Duncan, Kobe said that he would have more girls if he could because he loved being a "girl dad."
There are many girl dads out there and they are unrecognized and under-appreciated. I want dads to know that being a "girl dad" is not a curse.
It is a blessing.
Your little girl, or girls, will look up to you and cherish every moment with you, as Gianna did with Kobe all the way until the end.
You'll be responsible for making sure she's safe and happy.
She's supposed to learn just as much from you about life and love as she learns from her mom.
Girl dads will be their daughter's first love, so please don't be her first heartbreak.
Be her shoulder to cry on. Be her number one fan. Be her best friend. Be her confidant.
By being her dad, you'll be her entire world.
Don't get discouraged when people say, "Oh when are you going to have a boy? You need to have a boy!" Just like Gianna told people she had her dad's legacy, we got this.
Thank you, girl dads. We love you.
