Throughout the busy seven seasons of "Gilmore Girls," Lorelai had a few love interests - some better than others. They all had their good points...and their bad. Let's take a moment to discuss those.
1. Max Medina
He was sweet, he was smart, and he proposed with a thousand yellow daisies. Let's also not forget that he was Italian and could cook. Was it awkward that he was Rory's teacher? Yes. Was he wrong when he thought that marriage would solve all of their problems? YES. Was his jealousy of Luke called for? Double YES. Lorelai could have broken up with him in a nicer way, but when it's not the right person...you just know.
2. Alex
Their meet-cute was adorable, and the fact that their first date was a coffee tasting was perfect. However, that seemed to be the only common interest they had, and after just a few episodes his character just kind of disappeared. He was sweet and funny, but there was no magic spark.
3. Paul
Most people probably don't remember Paul. Lorelai met him at her business class in Hartford (they had a "burrito bit" at the vending machine). He was pretty unmemorable until he showed up at the diner one morning looking all of 20 years old. Rory mocked her endlessly, and Luke...well, Luke was less than amused.
4. Jason (aka Digger) Styles
If you liked his character, I'm judging you. Their relationship was based on nothing. She only initially went out with him to piss off her parents, then hid it from them for way too long. He was a manipulative person who eventually tried to screw over her family. She made the right decision when she left him.
5. Christopher Hayden
He may be Rory's father, but he's still my least favorite character on the show. His character is somewhat okay in the beginning, but if you still like him after Sookie's wedding episode, we can't be friends. And Rory yelling at him at the Gilmore mansion was totally justified, as well as her telling him to stay away in the later seasons because all he did was hurt them. He redeemed himself slightly in season six when he came into some money and genuinely tried to help them, but his and Lorelai's whirlwind marriage and inevitable breakup was painful to watch. (Which is one reason we're all so grateful that Amy is back and doing the revival so she can fix all of this mess.)
6. Luke Danes
He is probably the most perfect character in television history. He's gruff, sarcastic, and a completely self-less human being. Not once did he hesitate to help someone in need, whether it be Lorelai, Rory, Jess, and sometimes even Kirk. He may have seemed like he hated the world, but he loved that town and most of all Lorelai. He (and everyone else) waited five season for Lorelai to realize that what she needed most was right in front of her, pouring her coffee day after day, building her a chuppah, and constantly taking care of her and her daughter without questioning it once. The season finale left us all confused and hopeful, and if the revival doesn't have them married or on their way to it, I'm starting a riot.
