If I could give you one gift, it would be the gift of a mountain.
I would not literally give you a mountain, but I would give you a life obstacle in the form of a mountain that you must climb to the top and conquer.
It will appear in front of you at a time that you least expect it, at a point in life where you feel unstoppable.
It will bring your life to a screeching halt and leave you helpless but you must understand that there is only one way to go.... up.
In this situation, there is no one with you. Your family is thousands of miles across the country, your best friend is busy having her own mental breakdowns and all the people that said they would always be there for you no matter what, all of the sudden have plans.
I know how horrible it sounds, to be all alone looking at a place of pure happiness that's at the top of a long, cold road ahead of you. I promise you, once you start walking you will find parts of yourself you had no idea existed and the journey will become so worth it.
At first, when you begin to climb, you have this notion that its going to be so easy.
You step over any object that is in front of you, you smile at all the beautiful flowers you pass and laugh at the same bird who has been flying over you all day. You smile a lot and keep a positive mindset but after a while, it gets boring doing the same thing for hours all by yourself.
So to keep you occupied along the path towards happiness, maybe you will start to become a writer. Maybe you'll even write an article that thousands will hate and a few hundred will appreciate, the article might even make you crawl towards happiness because walking is just too hard to do anymore.
Then out of the blue, you will get one message making all the horrible pain so worth it, you will stand right back up and start climbing that mountain faster than ever before because you finally remembered who the fuck you are.
It won't be smooth sailing from that point on. You are going to kick a few rocks and stumble upon a cactus here and there but one thing you should never stop doing, one thing we all should NEVER STOP DOING is heading to the top.
Along the way, as you conquer your mountain people from all over the world will hear about your climb. They will find you in the midst of your struggle and they will encourage you to keep going. They will be your number one supporters yelling at you from the bottom saying things like you inspire me and I'm still here because of you.
Even though you may never have met them in person before, you impacted them beyond anything you will ever be able to comprehend.
Soon enough you will begin to see the yellow glow of pure happiness peak from behind the rock at the top of your mountain.
You will realize you are only a couple hundred feet away from escaping all the negativity that has come your way the last couple of days (maybe even weeks, depending on how big your mountain is.)
This last home stretch to the top won't be a piece of cake.
The blazing sun will be beating you down, you'll question why you even started climbing because you feel like you will never reach happiness.
You will want to give up and wave a little white flag in the air signifying your surrender.
The biggest question you will ask yourself is, will I succeed?
And yes, yes you will indeed. 98 and 3/4ths percent guaranteed, kid you'll move those fucking mountains, not just climb them.
If I could give you one gift, it would be the gift of a mountain.
