As the end of summer is quickly approaching, I've been thinking about some big life changes that are about to happen. The thought of moving to college in five days has me a nervous wreck, but I know the best has yet come. It seems as if I've been waiting for this moment for my whole life and now it's finally here. Below are a few of the top setting goals I have as a college freshman and aspiring journalist.

1. Develop Healthy Habits and Different Perspectives

Nothing makes me more excited about college than meeting new people with similar interests and learning about their passions. One of my target goals for this semester is to be open and honest with others about my beliefs and accepting of dissimilar opinions. In addition to growing relationships, I hope that this school year will give me some time to focus on the importance of being healthy and fit while avoiding the freshman 15.

2. Be Involved with Campus Activities and Organizations

I've always been a pretty well-rounded student that enjoys participating in community service and student government. The opportunities available at university, however, largely outnumber any activity I've been a part of. Whether it means joining a sorority, leading the First Year Council, or volunteering with the campus newspaper, I'm eager to explore clubs and associations that will teach me how to make a difference.

3. Learn How to Balance School and Fun

I regret taking my studies too seriously in high school and not making enough time for myself. Upon graduation, I realized life is too short not to be happy and enjoy the time you have with your friends. In college, I hope to aim for a decent GPA and still have the best the best experiences of my life.

4. Enjoy Every Second of It

As much as I'm ready to start taking classes related to my career, I know college means more than just earning a degree. College allows individuals to build new relationships, form different opinions, and go on adventures. No words could describe how ready I am to start my journey as a freshman at Alabama. As for that, Roll Tide!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
