(5-28) Getting My First Apartment: A New Beginning

Is this what being an adult feels like?

Dear friends,

This past October I had a decision to make. Do I live in an apartment next year with people I barely knew at the time, or do I pay $10,000 to live in a dorm that most likely doesn't have air conditioning? Well, as you can tell by the title of this article, I chose the first option.

It was a very ballsy move. Not just for me, but also for the two other people that I am living with. It was less than a month into our first year of college, and we barely knew each other. Would we end up hating each other by the end of this year? Would we regret signing the lease? Would this be the right decision? So many questions were in the air, but in the end, we were all saving a huge chunk of money by getting this cheap apartment and we couldn't be happier about it.

Now, this apartment doesn't have air conditioning in it which is a downside, but it is cheap enough for us to be saving a huge amount of money through our time at college that having no air conditioning is worth it. We each have our own room, there's one bathroom, a kitchen, and a cozy living room area. What's not to love about it?

Okay, well we do live in front of a train track that has trains going by every so often, but I don't really care about that as much anymore.

Signing the lease was a big step for me. I never felt like a *gags* somewhat adult before. Okay, that's a lie but it's a big thing to do. You go from your mom packing your lunch to you buying your own apartment. Life flashes before your eyes and it is crazy, but I'm excited for what the future has in store for me.

Anyways, back to the apartment.

I am so excited to live in this apartment. We get our keys June 10th, and the day cannot come any sooner. We already bought a couch off of one of my friends that is going to make our living room a huge hit. We also plan on getting some bomb-ass wifi because that is very important for two things: gaming and having guests over. We already paid our first payment for rent, so we don't have to worry about that for another 3 or so months. We are just so freaking excited to get this apartment, and I know it is going to be an awesome time.

No more communal bathrooms, small dorm rooms, or sleeping in the basement (we don't have one so...). Just three dudes with their own rooms, and some bomb-ass wifi.

I will miss having my friends live down the hall for sure. It always gave me something to do, whether we wanted to lay outside in the grass or go get dinner across the street. It'll be a change of pace for sure, but I am definitely going to invite people over for some home cooked meals and game nights.

All I can hope for at this point is that nothing goes wrong with the apartment (knock on wood). I know it will be a great time, and a lot of memories will be made there. As long as we don't get evicted, what could go wrong??? Haha...

To my future roommates: This is going to be an amazing experience together. Very excited to live above "Wonderland" with you two. Let's make it an awesome time.

Take care my friends, and I'll see you next time with a new article.

Your Friend,

Al

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
