I'd always considered fall to be a completely useless, in-between season, and it wasn't until a friend showed me the simplicity of its beauty that it became one of my favorite times of the year. It started off with a whole bunch of fall playlists, everything from Bon Iver to Kodaline to acoustic covers that are perfect for a lazy October Sunday, and ended with the realization that there's truly something to be said for "in-between" seasons. That goes for fall specifically, since it's probably the most beautiful and comfortable season out of the four. There's something magical about going outside one September day and realizing that autumn has arrived. (Unless of course, your planet is plagued by global warming and it's still 80 degrees outside in the middle of September.)
Autumn falls (pun intended) onto the city with a crisp breeze; the smell of autumn is immediately recognizable. It smells almost chilly even though the sun is still warming the air. The best thing about the weather is that you're not sweating, neither in five layers as you are in the winter, nor in shorts and a tank as you are in the summer. The big, fluffy sweaters that I've begun to associate with fall are the perfect dress code. They're both super comfortable AND cute, and ever since "The Hunger Games" became a thing, people have started wearing combat boots with their sweaters too. The autumn wardrobe 100% beats any other season's wardrobe.
If you want me to get more "white girl" than that, I'm going to admit to loving pumpkin spice lattes. They're warm and sweet and spicy and they complete the autumn aesthetic; I refuse to be judged. What's bigger than the white girl in me though is the five-year-old that I am; the five-year-old that's still super hyped about Halloween. Although I'm technically an "adult," whatever that may mean, and although my time for trick or treating is long past, that doesn't mean I can't buy myself a boatload of candy and eat it until I feel sick. After all, I'm an adult and no one can stop me.
