With the new year coming in hot, there's not a better time to start picking up the pieces from last year and finally get things going. You were a hot mess in shambles by the end of last year, let's make this one the one where you thrive. Here are four simple ways to help you start putting your life back together.

1. Start small.

Empty out your drawer and throw away all your socks that have holes in them, test all the pens on your desk and toss the ones that don't work. Do any small, quick, effortless activity that will save you time, energy and make you feel better a little later.

2. Write down everything.

And I do mean everything. You can get kind of creative with this one and buy some big beautiful journal that makes you want to write or you can keep a little notebook in your purse and write down anything that crosses your mind throughout the day.

It not only helps you reinforce the information in your brain but just in case you do forget you now have a hard copy in front of you. Homework assignments, important meeting times, even the name of the cute boy that sits behind you in your bio class.

3. Set a schedule.

Google calendar is your best friend, it allows you to break your day down by the hour and see what exactly is going on, as well as what's important and what you should be focusing on.

Falling into a routine like this allows for you to spend more time on what's important and less time on things like walking to Starbucks at 3:30 when you have class at 3:45 and you know the line is always at the door that time of that. Take note of when you have the time to do what, this also allows you to decide what's important to you and gives you better priorities.

4. Dress the part.

I know it sounds crazy but wakes up a little earlier every morning and get ready. Wear something you feel cute and comfortable in. You don't have to get dolled up, but taking the time to take care of yourself before tackle your day can make you feel better, and more energized for the rest of it!

I've got feelings for the Earth as a whole this year, there is no better time than now to start putting your life together. It's simpler than it seems and these four things are amazing ways to start.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
