There is nothing I can say, that will make that moment you turn off your alarm in the morning any less painful. Waking up is generally an unpleasant thing. What if you could intentionally change this perspective? What if waking up became not just easier, but enjoyable? This seems nearly impossible for some to even fathom, but I am here to tell you that it can be done. Here are some tips to aid in your quest to become a morning person.

1. Set intentions the day before.

I have found that by creating a list the night before with the assignments I need to complete, errands I need to run, or goals I have for my week, I feel much more organized when getting started. Don't get overly ambitious here. Set realistic goals for the day rather than writing a short novel.

2. Start centered.

Before you tackle your list, there is one essential step. Begin your day centered, whether that be through reading, meditation, journaling, or whatever else that can ease you into the day. This will definitely help in getting you into the right mindset and mood. I typically start with a quiet time, reading, prayer, and journaling. Doing these help to keep my focus in the right place. Starting centered on what's truly important allows me to look at the rest of the day with fresh eyes and a positive perspective.

3. Eat a real breakfast.

This doesn't mean eat a Poptart, or a banana and hit the road. Eating a substantial breakfast fuels your morning and can help you be so much more productive. I choose oatmeal every time. Don’t hate. I could honestly eat it every day of my life and I would be content, no doubt. I’m not talking the sludgey looking stuff they serve in the school lunch line. Hit up Pinterest for some recipes if you’re lacking inspiration, they're pretty much endless.

4. Get a workout in.

Granted everyone has busy schedules, but if yours allows it, get a workout in. Doing this in the morning can be super beneficial in getting your metabolism

moving, as well as provide an energy boost. If the gym is not your thing, Groupon is great for trying different classes. Morning hikes, runs, or even walks are a great option that includes getting some fresh air.

5) Give yourself enough time.

This is a big one. Give yourself enough time in the morning. I'm not sure why, but if I am rushed in the morning, 8/10 times, the rest of my day will be affected. The unneeded stress of rushing to get ready, skipping the coffee, and running out of the house looking like a mess is "no" from me. Providing myself with enough time makes mornings so much easier and peaceful.

6. Realize you woke up today, and that's a blessing.

If all else fails, just take a moment to realize how b-e-a-utiful life is, and how awesome you can make it if you choose. Reflect on the blessings in your life and think about how different life would be without them. You have as many hours in the day as Beyonce, so make them count! Now stop hitting snooze, get your butt out of bed, and go change the world!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
