During this pandemic, we are seeing lots of communities either self-quarantining or being told by their local government to stay at home unless you absolutely must leave your house. I'm sure you all know this already, but you shouldn't be leaving your house unless you need groceries, medications, medical, attention, or if you are considered an essential employee. These guidelines are in place for our own safety; we need to do our part and follow them.
However, staying inside your house for three weeks is bound to make you stir crazy and give you some major cabin fever. There are ways to get out and/or socialize while following these guidelines. These are just some things I've either done or seen in the past couple of weeks that could be very mentally or physically beneficial in this time of crisis.
All over social media, I've been seeing people finding ways to exercise together while practicing social distance at the same time. Exercise is proven to reduce stress, which is inevitable after being cooped up with your family. There are several online workouts you can find on YouTube or Pinterest, or you could even download workout apps to work at your own pace. You could also get out and learn or play sports with your family. If you have a dog, I'm sure they'd love to go out for a walk too.
Even just sitting out in the sun while you work on school or remote work at home is good for you. Everyone needs some vitamin D, and the sun is the easiest way to get it. Fresh air is a great remedy for cabin fever, no matter how you choose to get it.
It's also important to keep in touch with your friends. In this day and age, we are constantly in touch anyway, but it's harder now that we aren't allowed to visit face to face for the time being. Call your friends, facetime with your family, or just send texts to check in. Let people know how you are. We all need human contact in times like this, we just need to do it safely to maintain our health.
Preventing the spread of the coronavirus is a top priority overall, but you can't forget to take care of your mental and physical well-being outside of the virus.
